Recently, I got a compliment about my look that bothered me.

A friend of mine noticed my new outfit and said, "I like your look today. Isn’t this the trendiest ’suitable-for-marriage’ fashion?"

To be honest, I have a problem with this particular fashion trend and the catchphrase that is used to name it, which is commonly seen in fashion magazines and blogs these days.

I think this fashion trend is a disaster, a step backward for feminism, and a shame for our society.

As a matter of fact, I would hate it if my look sends that message. I would like the men I like to think that I am a woman who is independent and has a nice personality and ideas about life. Men who just want women to follow their orders and cater to their needs should stay the hell away from me.

I think many Asian women of today, including myself, are trying to send this message.

I am glad to see that T-shirts proclaiming feminist slogans are in fashion this season. For instance, Dior’s 700-dollar "We Should All Be Feminists" T-shirts were hugely successful, and now Taobao shops are selling knock-offs. I hope there will be more designs like these with slogans in Chinese soon.
